How to put background on android keyboard

Gboard:

The first solution to put the background on the keyboard on Android that I suggest you consider is Gboard. It is a keyboard developed by Google, which allows you to type your texts by swiping, insert GIFs and emojis quickly, use Google Translate and much more.

Obviously, I chose to talk about it in this guide of mine because it can also be customized in appearance. It is also completely free. Usually, it is already installed by default, but if it is not present you can download it to your device via the relevant section of the Play Store by pressing the Install button.

Then, enable the use of the keyboard and set it as the default keyboard: to do this, open the Settings app (the one shaped like a gear wheel) and go to System > Keyboard > On-screen keyboard. Next, turn ON the switch next to Gboard; finally, respond with OK to the security warning that appears. At this point, select the name of the keyboard from the menu that appears. If some steps are unclear to you, try consulting my guide on how to change the keyboard on Android.

Now, tap on the Gboard item again, then tap on the Theme item in the keyboard settings screen and choose one of the available backgrounds from those in the list: there are solid-colored ones, those with landscapes, etc.

If you want, you can also set a custom background by tapping on the (+) button found in the box below the My themes heading, at the top, and choosing the background image you want to use from the Gallery of the device in use. Next, adjust the background frame by moving the appropriate selection rectangle and press Next, then define the degree of brightness using the appropriate bar and press the Done button.

After choosing the background you want to use for the keyboard, decide whether to apply the border to the keys or not (using the appropriate switch) and tap the Apply button to save the changes.

To see your newly-set background keyboard and start using it, open any app on your device where you can type, tap where you want to start typing, and Gboard will immediately appear on the screen, showing off its new “look.”

Microsoft Swiftkey:

Another keyboard that I suggest you consider if you want to change its appearance is definitely Microsoft SwiftKey. It is a completely free solution, which offers many functions and customization options, including applying many different themes to change the keyboard background and more.

You can download it for free from the Play Store (or, if available, on alternative stores if your Android terminal does not have access to the Google store).

Once downloaded and installed, open it and tap on the Go to settings button: from here, set the lever relating to the keyboard in question to ON and confirm the operation by pressing the OK button that appears on the screen. Once this is done, in the screen that opens, press the Select Swiftkey button and, from the menu that appears, select the Microsoft Swiftkey Keyboard item from the list that appears. Then, tap on the Test the keyboard button and you will find yourself in the settings screen.

Now that you see the SwiftKey options screen, tap on the Account item and choose whether to log in with your Google account or Microsoft account, so that you can also download other themes.

Once you have logged in, tap on the Themes item that you find in the SwiftKey settings screen and locate the theme you want to use by choosing it from the Gallery tab. After finding the theme you like the most, tap on the relative preview and press the Download button: the theme will be downloaded and applied automatically. After completing these steps, you will see the keyboard with the theme you just set appear at the bottom of the screen and, if necessary, you can also try it.

Inside the Personal tab of the Themes section of the app you will find all the downloaded themes, together with the default ones. Instead, through the Custom tab, present in the SwiftKey Themes section, it is possible to create customized themes to apply to the keyboard by pressing the Get started button, which you can find under the wording Create new theme. Subsequently, by pressing the Add image button you can choose the background you prefer. Once you've finished making changes, just tap on the Save button at the top right and apply the theme as I previously indicated.
